The Most Common Dreams and Their Meanings

While our dreams might be as weird and as diverse as we are, there are some dreams that we all have in common. Here we explore 5 of the most common dreams and their meanings.

1. Dreams about being naked

It’s probably safe to say that most of us have dreamt of finding ourselves in the nude in an inconvenient place – usually at work or at school – and it’s easily one of the most embarrassing dreams. But what does is even mean?

Well, dreams about being naked are one of the most common dreams and they usually indicate that we are feeling vulnerable or exposed.

When you experience this dream, think about what’s going on in your waking life; are you scared about someone seeing the real you? Or perhaps you’re worrying about how other perceive you?

2. Dreams about teeth falling out

There are a few interpretations when someone dreams about losing teeth – and the dream experts can’t seem to agree!

One of the oldest and most widely accepted meanings involves vanity with losing your teeth being an indication of a fear of growing older and losing your looks. But a slight adaptation of this is that it can indicate low self-confidence or that you’re unhappy with your current appearance.

Others believe that tooth loss represents personal loss and helplessness; you may dream of losing your teeth if you’ve experience the death of a loved one, the breakdown of a relationship, losing your job or your home.

3. Dreams of falling

Many of us will have felt an unsettling jolt while drifting off to sleep and imagining we are falling, but dreaming of falling when we are fully asleep is also very common.

If you dream you are falling it could mean you are feeling as if life is out of control. It could also indicate feelings of inadequacy or that you’re in need of more support from those around you.

You may fall in your dream if you’re worried about something at home or at work and it can be your subconscious telling you that your need to let go.

4. Dreams about being chased

Being chased in a dream can be indicative of the fight or flight response – are you running away from something that you need to turn and face in your waking life? It can represent the stress and anxieties you’re feeling at the time and can act as encouragement from your subconscious to face your problems.

5. Dreams about flying

Similar to dreams about falling, dreaming that you are flying can be representative of issues in your waking life and things feeling like they are out of control – your subconscious wants you to let go so issues can work themselves out.

If everything is hunky-dory in life, then dreaming you are flying can be an expression of freedom. It can feel really liberating to fly in a dream and can signify hope and happiness and tell you that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
