Many people decorate their homes with crystals due to their growing popularity for being powerful healers.
When it comes to placing crystals in your bedroom, it’s important to be cautious.
While some crystals can have positive effects on sleep – like Amethyst or Angelite – others, such as Carnelian or Citrine, should be avoided in the bedroom.

10 Crystals You Shouldn’t Keep In Your Bedroom
Carnelian is a beautiful and uplifting crystal, but it’s not ideal for the bedroom.
This crystal, which is associated with vitality, strength, and confidence, can often be too energizing for sleep.
It’s a gemstone that focuses on filling you with energy and inspiration, rather than helping you drift off to sleep, so keeping it near your bed may result in insomnia.
I’d recommend only working with this crystal in your waking hours.
Selenite is a popular crystal for its cleansing and purifying properties, but you shouldn’t keep it in your bedroom.
The powerful energy of this crystal can cause mental and physical stimulation, as it works with your crown and third eye chakras,=, making it hard to relax and drift off to sleep.
If you want to cleanse yourself or your other crystals with selenite, you should only do so during the day and preferably in a separate room.
Citrine, a crystal with a sunny yellow hue, is often used for its stimulating effects.
It’s thought to fill your life with joy, good fortune, and prosperity.
Much like Carnelian, this is a wonderfully positive and uplifting crystal to work with, but if you want to keep citrine in your home, it’s best to store it somewhere other than your bedroom, as its energising properties may be too much of a distraction at night.
4. Clear Quartz
This one may surprise you, but it’s not a good idea to keep Clear Quartz in your bedroom.
Clear Quartz has numerous properties and can be used in most situations, but it isn’t recommended for sleep.
Clear Quartz amplifies the energies of other crystals, which can result in overwhelm. Keeping it alone shouldn’t cause any issues, but if it’s coupled with other crystals, especially any others in this list, it can be very disruptive.
Like Selenite, this crystal can also activate the crown chakra, which you want to avoid for a peaceful rest.
Sunstone, a crystal with orange undertones, is said to infuse its surroundings with a joyful, uplifting vibe.
As well as relieving feelings of sadness and stress, wearing a piece of sunstone jewellery is said to fill one with optimism and happiness.
Sunstone is a beautiful stone, but its energising properties mean it shouldn’t be kept in the bedroom.
If you want to work with a crystal at night that is connected to the celestial bodies, I’d recommend trying moonstone instead – this is a much more soothing crystal.
6. Red Jasper
Red Jasper is regarded as a protective crystal because of its ability to ward off negativity.
It’s been said to promote emotional well-being and boost energy and stamina. It also helps with creativity and passion.
Red Jasper is a very energising stone and, as such, its presence in the bedroom can prove to be disruptive.
7. Green Aventurine
Green Aventurine is the perfect crystal to bring you luck and inspiration and, although green crystals can bring calm, you shouldn’t keep this one in the bedroom.
It can make you feel more enthusiastic, which is the last thing you want when you settle down to sleep.
8. Orange Calcite
I adore working with Orange Calcite – it’s a bright and uplifting crystal that instills creativity and joy.
However, bedtime is not the time for creativity and upliftment – it’s a time for relaxation. As such, this isn’t a good crystal to keep in your bedroom.
9. Tiger’s Eye
Tiger’s Eye will fill you with strength, confidence, and stamina when used during the day, but these qualities don’t make it ideal for the night.
This crystal can help with motivation, so isn’t suitable for keeping near your bed.
Malachite is a very powerful crystal. I always encourage caution when using this during the day as its energy can be quite overwhelming for some people.
So, it goes without saying, that this crystal shouldn’t be anywhere near your bed.
As well as being such a powerful gem, it’s also highly toxic in its natural form, so shouldn’t be in the bedroom.
Garnet re-energises the lower chakras and can fill you with passion for life, and desire, and leave you feeling revitalized.
If you’re looking to connect with your partner intimately, it can be helpful to keep Garnet in the bedroom, but it’s important to remove it before sleep.
Cinnabar can help those looking for love, and can be a great crystal to use for manifestation and boosting confidence.
It’s a very powerful stone which makes it unsuitable for keeping in the bedroom.
Ruby, much like Garnet, can help to awaken your desires and passion.
It can fill you with confidence and boost your creativity and energy which means it shouldn’t be kept in the bedroom or it’s very likely to keep you awake at night.
Amber, while a great healer and an absorber of negative energy, can be a highly motivating, get-up-and-go stone.
Working with Amber during the day can fill you with vitality, but will leave you sleepless at night.
Can I Keep Crystals In My Bedroom Or Near My Bed?
Yes, you absolutely can. There are many gentle crystals that can help you achieve a peaceful night’s sleep, but there are many crystals that will have the opposite effect.
I must admit, I do have a lot of the above crystals in my bedroom as this is the main place I store them, but I have been working with crystals for a long time, and I make sure not to keep any of the above too close to my bed.
Crystals are fine to keep in a bedroom, but you should be selective about the ones you keep there – and be especially mindful of the crystals you keep next to your bed or under your pillow.
It’s possible that crystals like Garnet, Malachite, Tiger’s Eye, and the others in the above list could overstimulate your mind and keep you awake at night.
